Visual Edge IT Ohio Office Solutions Teacher of the Month for March 2013 is Mr. Manuel Halkias, English and speech teacher at Canton McKinley in Canton, OH. Most days you will find Mr. Halkias in his classroom well after school has let out. Fellow teacher Mrs. Stephanie Lepley said, “I have no words to truly describe what Manuel is capable of getting out of his students. Watching his students compete at tournaments is amazing. Manuel assists in the creation of their speeches that are well written and his students do a phenomenal job bringing the words to life.”
Mr. Halkias has been a speech coach for seventeen years and has had over 250 state qualifiers. In fact, he has had a state qualifier every year he has coached. He was on the 2006 Stark County All County Teaching Team. He was inducted in the OHSSL in 2009. In 2011 he was honored as the CPEA Teacher of the Year. He was inducted into the National Forensic League Hall of Fame. He is a published writer and has earned a Triple Diamond which represents over 60,000 points scored by students in speech competition. He attends many student activities including concerts and sporting events.
Sales manager Tony Simeone, General Sales Manager Chip Reihl, and Marketing Director Denise Dennewitz presented Mr. Halkias with a gift basket, a banner, and a certificate to commemorate the event. Mary Ann Donuts donated delicious donuts so the students could join in on the celebration! Commercials will air over the next two weeks on Mix 94.1 congratulating Mr. Halkias.
